Small Changes That Strengthen Confidence at Work
Confidence at work is often talked about as though it is something people either have or do not have. In practice, it tends to develop through a series of small experiences.
Moments where you contribute, make a decision or handle something that previously felt uncertain.
These moments can easily be overlooked, particularly if your attention is drawn to what could have gone better. It is often the gaps that stand out, rather than what is already working.
A useful shift is to notice those moments more deliberately. Looking back over the week and recognising where you handled something well or where something felt slightly easier than it might have done before.
This is not about ignoring areas for development. It is about building a more balanced view of your own capability.
It can also be helpful to choose one small stretch each week. Something that feels just outside your usual way of operating, but still manageable.
Over time, these small steps begin to feel more familiar. Confidence tends to grow in this gradual way, often without a clear point where it suddenly appears.
