Building Well-being Cultures and Resilient People
Picture
How does an organisation facilitate employee well-being and become resilient? Good organisational leadership and strategic management are essential to ensuring that these factors are ‘on the agenda’ but there is an organisational capability need beyond this. Well-being cultures in this context might be seen in terms of a hierarchy:

The factors underlying organisational resilience, those relating to teams and people, enable it to happen.

We focus on assessing, building and maintaining resilience at the individual and team level.

Personal resilience is not just something you are (or are not) born with. Research indicates that three key environmental conditions are important in developing and supporting it:

Resilience:
The organisation’s capacity to anticipate key events from emerging trends, constantly adapt to change, and rapidly bounce back from disaster.

Cranfield University, 2008
  • Caring relationships – the working environment should be compassionate, understanding, respectful and interested. It should listen to people, thereby establishing a feeling of safety and trust.
  • High expectation messages – the working environment should provide firm and clear guidance, structure and challenge. It should focus on individual strengths more than weaknesses.
  • Meaningful participation and contribution – the working environment should provide opportunities for individuals to take responsibility, make decisions, give voice and be heard, to contribute one’s talents.

Teams which are both effective and resilient deliver superior performance, consistently. They comprise more than ‘just’ resilient individuals. Resilient teams:
  • Understand and support their own and the team’s goals, roles and responsibilities
  • Have the ability and tools to communicate effectively within and outside of the team
  • Understand the contribution and impact they make
  • Work across “silos”
  • Are permitted to take responsibility and make decisions
  • Are supportive to each other and celebrate achievement
  • Exploit and complement the individual strengths of each team member
What we do

We work with you to assess, build and maintain well-being cultures and resilient people and teams through:
